Kentucky Plays Host to Tennessee in Conference Finale; UK to Honor Four Seniors
The University of Kentucky volleyball team will play host to the University of Tennessee in both teams' Southeastern Conference finale Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m., in Memorial Coliseum. Sunday's contest will mark the
second in three days between the Cats and the Lady Vols.
Prior to the first game, UK will honor its senior volleyball members: Melissa Kracht, Stephenie Taylor, Stacey Wallace and Megan Weiskircher. "We want to send our seniors out with a win," UK coach Jona Braden said. "They have contributed a lot to our program in the time they have been here. Closing out our SEC schedule with a victory would give us something to build on." UK (4-20, 2-11 SEC) was defeated by UT (21-6, 9-4 SEC) in four games Friday night. The Lady Vols took the first two games, but Kentucky battled back to win the third. In a closely contested fourth game, the Cats were unable to overcome an early deficit and lost 15-11. Kentucky will rely heavily on Weiskircher and Kristen Batt for offensive production. Both players posted double-doubles Friday. Batt led UK with 19 kills and 17 digs, while Weiskircher posted her team-leading ninth double-double of the campaign with 16 kills and 10 digs. Junior setter Whitney Sample, fresh off recording her 2,000th career assist, looks to post her third-consecutive double-double. Liz McCaslin and Sissy Canfield hope to duplicate their double-digit kill performances from Friday night. If the Cats are to even the season series with the Lady Vols, they must do a better job blocking Ariana Wilson. Wilson led UT posting a match-high 27 kills and a .305 hitting percentage.
Sunday's game will be televised on tape delay on Fox Sports Net South
(SEC-TV).
