Weiskircher Named To Big Orange Bash All-Tournament Team
Sept. 12, 1999
Kentucky junior Megan Weiskircher was rewarded for two stellar performances this past weekend at Clemson, S.C. by being the only Wildcat to earn a place on the Big Orange Bash All-Tournament team. UK was 0-2 at the tournament as the team lost its first matches of the season and heads into its next match with a 4-2 record.
In UK’s Sept. 10 loss to No. 18 Clemson, Weiskircher led the Cats with a .263 hitting percentage, six kills and only one error on 19 attacks. The Houston-native added five digs, one block solo and three block assists. The intense net play of Weiskircher allowed the Cats to counter the potent Tiger attack in a close three game victory by Clemson.
Weiskircher was even better in the 3-0 loss to No. 30 Notre Dame with a .353 hitting percentage (8-2-17), 10 digs, a block solo and five block assists.
After taking a step back in her sophomore season, Weiskircher is demonstrating a resurgence in 1999 as she has already, after only two weeks, surpassed her 1998 totals in kills, total attacks, service aces, digs, block solos and block assists. Currently, Weiskircher is among the team leaders in kills (3rd), attacks (3rd) and block solos, block assists and total blocks (1st).
Weiskircher and the Cats will look to get back in the win column on Sept. 14 when they host the Lady Toppers of Western Kentucky in Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m. The game marks the first “Two for Tuesday” promotion of the season where two fans get in for the price of one.
