Rumely Earns Second SEC Honor
University of Kentucky setter Sarah Rumely has earned her second Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor in as many weeks, after leading the Wildcats to a 4-0 record and a tournament title this week.
The freshman recorded 202 assists, averaging 13.47 assists per game, to lead Kentucky to four consecutive victories. Rumely was named to the Kentucky Classic All-Tournament team after averaging 13.60 assists, 1.80 kills and 2.10 digs per game in the three-game tournament title run. The New Palestine, Ind., native was one kill shy of her first triple-double, finishing with nine kills, 12 digs and 56 assists in the Catsí win over Georgia Tech. The 12 digs in the Georgia Tech match were a new career-high for Rumely who recorded her first career double-double with 12 digs and 56 assists against the Yellow Jackets. She tied her career-high with 10 kills and had a season-best four blocks in the win over Morehead State.
Rumely is hitting .423 on the year which leads the team. She leads the team with 13.03 assists and 0.79 aces per game. The newcomer is second on the team in blocks (0.55), fifth in digs (1.66) and fifth in kills (1.83).
Kentucky is currently 7-1 on the season and returns to the court this Friday, Sept. 15, when the Wildcats open SEC play against Arkansas. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.
