Volleyball Wraps Up Spring with Match, Clinic
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After enjoying an outstanding spring season, the University of Kentucky volleyball team will wrap up spring play with a home match against Morehead State. First serve is slated for 6 p.m., Friday at Memorial Coliseum.
In addition to the match, Kentucky will also host its 2008 Coaches Clinic featuring the UK staff, Kathy DeBoer of the AVCA, Jamie Gordon of Morehead State and Mike Lingenfelter of the Munciana 18-1 Samurai.
DeBoer is a former UK head coach and now serves as the Executive Director of the AVCA. Gordon is Morehead’s head coach and a former Wildcat assistant coach, while Lingenfelter is the former club coach of UK players Lauren Rapp and Sarah Rumely.
Kentucky has played extremely well in the spring rattling off a 5-1 record, including a perfect 4-0 tournament in Indianapolis. The Wildcats got big wins over Pittsburgh and Purdue in the Indianapolis tournament, and began the season with a home win over Illinois.
Rumely enjoyed an impressive outing registering 124 assists, 16 kills and a team-leading nine blocks at the Indianapolis tournament, while rising senior Queen Nzenwa and sophomore Sarah Mendoza combined for 23 kills to lead the team to the win over Illinois.
“This is a perfect end to a successful spring,” said UK Head Coach Craig Skinner. “The players have committed to working hard this season. They’re excited to play one more match and help give back to the volleyball community participating in our clinic.”
Fans are welcome to attend UK’s match with Morehead State at 6 p.m. Admission to the match is free.
The coaches’ clinic will begin at 5 p.m., an hour prior to the match with Morehead State’s Jamie Gordon. The event will conclude Saturday following a UK practice. A complete list of the events is as follows:
