LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Kentucky volleyball team opened its four-week spring schedule in impressive fashion with a four-match slate at the Circle City Invitational in Indianapolis this weekend.
Kentucky faced IUPUI, Southern Illinois, Notre Dame and Purdue to begin action in the 2012 season. Kentucky dominated in all phases of the game en route to capturing seven of the eight sets played.
The tournament featured two sets against each squad to maximize competition. UK swept its first three opponents, before splitting against 2011 Sweet 16 member Purdue. Senior setter Christine Hartmann directed a potent offense with an average of 11 assists per set. Senior Ashley Frazier led a trio of attackers with 20 or more kills with a team-high 26 combined hammers. Junior Alexandra Morgan posted 25 with classmate Whitney Billings notching 23.
Morgan was the most efficient offensive performer with a .439 attacking percentage. Frazier fired at the tune of .407, with freshman Kayla Tronick logging a .315 clip.
The Wildcats will next be in action with a home date on April 7. The Blue and White will welcome Miami (OH) and Morehead State to Memorial Coliseum for a three-team round-robin spring tournament.
