Rumely Named to US National A2 Roster

Kentucky junior setter Sarah Rumely was one of 24 players and four coaches selected to the U.S. Women’s National A2 Program for 2009 it was announced by USA Volleyball.
“It’s a great honor for Sarah to be named to this team and train with this elite group of athletes,” said Kentucky coach Craig Skinner. “She is a proven and fantastic player with a motor that won’t quit. USA volleyball is lucky to have her in their pipeline.”
The 2009 U.S. Women’s National A2 Team includes four setters, including Rumely, 10 outside/opposite hitters, six middles and four liberos. The 24 players come from 19 different collegiate programs.
“I am very honored for having been selected to this prestigious team,” Rumely said. “I’m extremely excited to train with the team and represent the U.S.”
Rumely was selected as the 2008 SEC Player of the Year as well as being placed on the AVCA All-American honorable mention list as a junior. In addition she was a first-team All-SEC selection and the only pure setter to win SEC Player of the Week honors in 2008.
She notched 12 matches with at least 40 assists in 2008 as part of a 10.30 assist average in leading the Wildcats to a .251 team attack percentage. Rumely added 0.87 blocks, 2.38 digs and 1.11 kills per set as Kentucky finished 26-6 in 2008 with an NCAA Tournament appearance.
The U.S. Women’s National A2 program is scheduled to train May 18-22 in Minneapolis before being split into two 12-player rosters to compete in the Open Division of the 2009 USA Adult Open Championships. The players, all of whom have remaining collegiate eligibility for 2009, were selected as part of the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 20-22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
