Volleyball Opens Spring Schedule With Two Wins




The University of Kentucky volleyball team opened up its spring season on Saturday, March 24th, at the University of Dayton by participating in a round-robin tournament with Dayton, Pittsburgh, Xavier and Bowling Green State University.

Playing under the new scoring format adopted by the NCAA, which will be used in the fall of 2001 season, the Cats came away from their first competitive experience with a strong overall performance. The new scoring format that has been adopted by the NCAA is as follows: 30-point rally score for all games, except for the fifth game which will be a 15-point rally score. The let serve was also used for the first time, which will no longer ends play as a side out for the opponent. The play continues until the rally ends.

Match Results are as follows:

Match #1 Kentucky 2, Dayton 0 (30-25, 30-25)
Match #2 Bowling Green State Univ. 2, Kentucky 0 (30-26, 30-27)
Match #3 Kentucky 2, Xavier 0 (30-20, 33-31)
Match #4 Pittsburgh 2, Kentucky 1 (28-30, 30-25, 15-13)

UK will travel to Indiana University on Saturday, March 31st to participate in a six-team round-robin tournament. The competition begins at 9 a.m. The Cats will play at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. The competition site is the Indiana University School Gymnasium.
