Two Home Events Highlight Spring Volleyball Schedule
March 12, 2002 The University of Kentucky volleyball team will begin a four-week spring season with a home scrimmage against Marshall on Saturday, March 23. The schedule also features tournaments at Indiana and Northwestern, as well as a home tournament on April 6. UK opens the spring slate against the Thundering Herd before traveling to IU for a tournament featuring Cleveland, Indiana State and Indianapolis on March 30. UK plays host to Morehead State, Western Kentucky and Evansville in an all-day tournament at UK's Seaton Center on April 6, and wraps up spring play at Northwestern on April 13. The Cats will take on Loyola-Chicago, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Northwestern, Western Michigan and Valparaiso in the one-day event in Evanston, Ill. Kentucky boasts a roster of 12 student-athletes for the spring season, including rising seniors Kristen Batt, Aleisha Craven, Anne Koester and Toni Lee. Returning for UK will be freshman redshirt Julie Davis. Davis, a native of Allentown, Pa., sat out her freshman season as a redshirt before suffering a knee injury last summer. After undergoing several months of rehabilitation, the 6-2 middle blocker will see her first action as a Wildcat since seeing limited action last spring. The Wildcats are coming off a 13-15 rebuilding season which saw UK more than double its win total from the 2000 season. Kentucky lost only two seniors from the squad, middle blocker April Barnhorst, a second-team All-SEC selection, and setter Whitney Sample, the No. 4 all-time assist leader at UK. 2002 UK Spring Volleyball Schedule
