Freshman Becky Pavan Tabbed a Rising Star
Jan. 29, 2009
LEXINGTON, Ky. - University of Kentucky freshman Becky Pavan has roped in another post-season honor for the Wildcat volleyball team. The first-year player was tabbed a "Rising Star" by the Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com), becoming one of 17 freshmen to earn the honor. CVU chose 17 freshmen who had an immediate impact on their teams in their first season of collegiate action and "not only did they excel this season, but expect them to do great things in the future." The honor is just one of many for the Ontario native. In her first season with the Blue and White she was a unanimous selection to the All-SEC Freshman team and was an honorable mention honoree to the AVCA All-South Region. Twice during the season Pavan earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Pavan led the squad and the conference with 1.20 blocks per set, and tallied 140 total blocks on the year. She posted 10 blocks in a win against Tennessee. CVU described Pavan as "another impact player in the SEC, Pavan made her presence felt at the net." Not only was she a defensive presence for the Wildcats, but she was equally impressive on the offensive side of things. Pavan notched 200 kills and saved some of her biggest break-out matches for the biggest of stages including a season-high 14 kills in the upset victory over Florida.
