Wildcat Duo Falls in Second Round
The University of Kentucky women's tennis doubles team of Brooke Skeen and Leigh Bradwell was eliminated from the NCAA All-American Tournament in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Skeen and Bradwell had received an automatic bid into the qualifying round of the tournament. In the opening round, the duo defeated Shannon Duffy and Colleen Cheng of Northwestern in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Unfortunately for the nation's 44th-ranked doubles team, the next round found them matched up against 31st-ranked Janet Walker and Vladka Uhlirova of Texas who defeated them 6-3, 6-3.
UK still boasts one team remaining in the tournament. Carolina Mayorga
and Sarah Witten received a bid to play in the main draw. Mayorga and
Witten are the nation's 11th-ranked doubles team and are among the final
16 teams. The Wildcat tandem will be in action on Thursday at the Riveria
Country Club in Los Angeles.
