Women's Tennis Heads to USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team is set to compete at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional in West Lafayette, Ind. Oct. 18-21.
“We have prepared very well for this tournament,” UK head coach Carlos Drada said. “It is now important to focus on winning by playing with the same awareness that we have shown during this preparation period. We are ready for this competition. I am looking forward to a great weekend.”
Competition will begin Thursday morning with a qualifying doubles round followed by a qualifying singles round. Freshmen Kirsten Lewis and Nadia Ravita will pair up for the qualifying round of doubles play, taking on Konstantina Adami and Caroline Hedrick of Butler at 9:00 a.m. ET. Lewis and Ravita won two matches as a duo at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic.
Sophomore Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff will kick off the qualifying singles round against Maggie Leavell of Vanderbilt at 11:45 a.m. ET.
The top eight doubles pairs in Thursday’s qualifying round will join the field of 32 for Friday’s action while the eight individuals will advance from the singles qualifying draw into the round of 64 on Friday afternoon.
Morin-Kougoucheff and junior Khristina Blajkevitch will team up Friday morning for the doubles round of 32, facing off against Frances Altick and Georgina Sellyn of Vanderbilt at 10:30 a.m. Junior Caitlin McGraw and senior Jessica Stiles will face a qualified team from Thursday at 9 a.m.
McGraw will begin singles play Friday afternoon at 6:15 p.m., taking on Yuiri Nomoto of Middle Tennessee State. Sophomore Stephanie Fox matches up against Mara Schmidt of Purdue at 1 p.m. on Friday while Ravita goes up against Kaylene Chadwell of UT Chattanooga at 7:45 p.m.
