Women’s Tennis Stung By No. 1 Georgia Tech
ATLANTA, Ga. – The No. 29 Kentucky women’s tennis team (7-2 overall, 0-0 conf.) was defeated by No. 1 Georgia Tech (7-1, 0-0) Sunday, following the Cats’ upset of No. 18 Clemson on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets beat the Wildcats, 6-1.
All three UK doubles teams were defeated and the Cats looked to singles for their first point. Five of six Georgia Tech players were ranked in singles, three in the top 25. Unfortunately, Kentucky was unable to pull off another upset.
Freshman Megan Broderick of UK gained the only point of the match for Kentucky. Broderick defeated No. 38 Christy Stripling of Georgia Tech, 1-6, 6-3, 10-6, at the No. 3 singles position. The Kentucky freshman is 8-1 for the season.
Previously undefeated sophomore Christine Johnston suffered her first singles loss of the season to GT’s No. 56 Noelle Hickey, 6-4, 6-4.
Kentucky will return home to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington, Ky. Saturday, Feb. 23 to take a swat at the Kansas Jayhawks. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. (ET). For more information on Kentucky women’s tennis please visit, www.ukathletics.com.
