No. 47 Kentucky Women's Tennis Falls to No. 17 Vanderbilt

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis lost 5-1 to No. 17 Vanderbilt on a pleasant Friday afternoon at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
Vanderbilt took the doubles point from Kentucky to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. The No. 3 doubles match was the first to finish, with Vanderbilt’s Marie Casares and Georgina Sellyn defeating junior Khristina Blajkevitch and senior Jessica Stiles 8-2.
The Commodores clinched the doubles point on court two, as Frances Altick and Ashleigh Antal defeated sophomore Stephanie Fox and junior Cece Witten 8-5. The match on court one was abandoned with Vanderbilt leading 5-4.
In singles play, Georgina Sellyn quickly added to the Commodores’ lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kentucky freshman Kirsten Lewis. Kentucky went down 3-0 following the result on court three, where Vanderbilt’s Marie Casares took the match 6-2, 6-0.
Vanderbilt won its third singles match to clinch the match on court two. Courtney Colton knocked off Stiles 6-0, 6-2.
With Vanderbilt having clinched the match, play continued.
Junior Caitlin McGraw's match on court five was ended early when Ashleigh Antal was forced to retire in the second set due to injury with McGraw leading 7-6 (6), 2-0.
Freshman Nadia Ravita put Kentucky on the scoreboard and continued her impressive opening collegiate season, knocking off No. 61 Lauren Mira in straight sets. The 24th-ranked individual won the match on court one 7-5, 6-3.
Fox fell on court six in a third-set, 10-point, tiebreaker 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (3) to Vandy’s Frances Altick
Kentucky will return to the courts next weekend for the last weekend of regular season action, hosting Florida and South Carolina.
