OKLAHOMA CITY - For the sixth time in the history of the event the United States captured the World Cup of Softball held in Oklahoma City. UK's assistant coach and former All-America player, Molly Johnson, started five contests in the event and ended the series on a three-game hitting streak.

The National team scored two early runs and held on to beat Australia 3-0 in the Championship game of the 2012 World Cup of Softball presented by Lumber Liquidators to cap an eventual week of softball at the Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

Johnson concluded the six-game tournament for the Americans with singles in three consecutive outings. She drove in one and scored once as well. From her shortstop position, she logged eight assists and four putouts as the American's dominating pitching staff gave up a mere two runs combined in the tournament.

The USA Women's National Team will now travel for the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada, July 4-9. Following that competition the women will remain on the road as the women head to Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada July 13-22 for the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championship. Looking to capture an eighth-consecutive Gold Medal, Team USA comes in as the defending World Champions, having defeated Japan in the Gold Medal game of the last edition of the event, which took place two years ago in Caracas, Venezuela.

In addition to staring on the field for Team USA for the third consecutive year, Johnson is providing commentary on the team's travels and games with a blog on the National Team's website. Fans wishing to follow along with Johnson and Team USA can do so here: Molly's Blog
