LEXINGTON, Ky. - University of Kentucky softball senior Ginny Carroll has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for her hard work and dedication to the Lexington community over the last four years, it was announced Monday.

Carroll, a native of Hendersonville, Tenn., has been the leader on UK's team over the last four seasons in giving back to the Lexington community with countless community service hours. The outfielder has helped ring the bell for Salvation Army and pack food into backpacks for God's Pantry Backpack Program all four years she has been at Kentucky. On top of volunteering for the SEC Together We Can Food Drive, Carroll helped at a Special Olympics Bowling event and volunteered at Southland Christian Church's Jesus Prom. Carroll along with other UK student-athletes helped organize a collection of blankets to deliver to UK's Children Hospital before the holidays and she helped pack meals for Christian Student Fellowship.

Carroll's community service efforts were also felt by her fellow students as she was a volunteer with Big Blue U, which is an event that introduces first-year students to UK Athletics, and UK Fusion, which is a one-day event where UK students volunteer for the day at a local non-profit agency or area neighborhood residence.

The senior is having a good year for Kentucky on the field, hitting .269 (32-for-119) with two doubles, three homers, seven RBI and a .371 on-base percentage. For her career, Carroll has played in 192 games with 18 doubles, 12 homers, 48 RBI and a .347 on-base percentage.

Joiner, Cumbess, Gaines Named CoSIDA Academic All-District: University of Kentucky junior Griffin Joiner and seniors Lauren Cumbess and Emily Gaines have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team for their excellence in the classroom and on the field, it was announced recently.

The Academic All-District Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America program's District 2 team is comprised of 12 players with Kentucky being the only school in the district to earn three selections. All three UK players are eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced later this month.

Joiner was selected as the lone catcher to the team, while Cumbess was one of four infielders and Gaines was one of four outfielders. Joiner, a native of Hopkinsville, Ky., has a 3.91 cumulative GPA at Kentucky while majoring in kinesiology and exercise science. The junior is hitting .310 (49-for-158) with 10 doubles, eight homers and 28 RBI.
