UK Takes On The Cardinals
April 4, 2000
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Kentucky softball team travels up Interstate-64 on Wednesday, April 5 to face the Louisville Cardinals in a doubleheader. The twin bill at Ulmer Field is set for 6 and 8 p.m.
The Cats (21-17) and Cards (24-14) split a doubleheader last week when the two teams met at the UK Softball Complex. The Cards captured the first game, 2-0, while, the Cats won the second game, 3-0.
"When we played Louisville before, their pitchers kept us off balance," UK coach Beth Kirchner said. "Our goal is to be more aggressive at the plate and generate more offense. We've been finding ways to win which is great, but we would like our offense to catch fire again."
The Cats are coming off a four-game series victory against Georgia last weekend. UK captured three out of four games from the host Bulldogs. Pitcher Keary Camunas earned two victories and struck out a combined 14 batters in her two starts. UK stands at 5-3 in the Southeastern Conference and in first place in the SEC Eastern Division.
UK shortstop Angie Dal Pozzo went 5-for-12 against the Bulldogs with two doubles, three RBIs, and scored a run. Dal Pozzo, a native of Livingston, Ill., hit a two-run double in the first inning of game three to give UK a 2-0 lead, as the Cats went on to defeat UGA, 3-0.
