LEXINGTON, Ky. – Due to the expectation of winter weather in the Lexington area over the next two days, the University of Kentucky softball team has canceled its game against Southern Illinois on Wednesday, head coach Rachel Lawson announced Tuesday. Today’s game against North Carolina is still on schedule for a 5 p.m. ET first pitch.
Admission to the North Carolina game is free of charge due to the continued construction of the new UK Softball Complex. The new stadium is nearly completed, but until construction in the seating areas is fully complete, admission to games will be free of charge. Fans can contact the UK Ticket Office with any questions prior to attending a game at 1-800-928-2287.

Kentucky (18-4, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) is coming off a strong opening weekend of SEC play where it took two out of three games from the Ole Miss Rebels. UK dropped the first game of the series 3-1 before earning 5-2 wins on Saturday and Sunday. The series win was the sixth consecutive against the Rebels and the second time in three years that UK has opened SEC play with a series win. UK currently sits tied for first atop the SEC Eastern Division standings with No. 4/4 Florida, who took two out of three at Auburn, and No. 8/10 Tennessee, who took two of three from No. 1/2 Alabama in Knoxville, Tenn.
UK true freshman second baseman Christian Stokes had a great weekend for UK, hitting .833 (5-for-6) with one homer and three RBI. For her efforts, she was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

Aull, Dill Spark No. 24 UK Past Southern Illinois
Senior Meagan Aull and sophomore Kara Dill sparked the 24th-ranked Kentucky softball team to a 9-5 win over Southern Illinois behind a season-high 13 hits in the opening game of the Coach B Classic.
