March 23, 2003
The University of Kentucky softball team (9-21, 1-11) dropped its final game of the series with 18th-ranked Alabama (25-10, 8-1) Sunday at the UA Softball Complex. The tide scored six runs in the first inning and used four Kentucky errors to get the 8-2 win.
Alabama jumped out to a huge lead in the first inning. Three singles, two walks, a Kentucky error and a bases-loaded double led to six runs.
Senior Lyndsey Angus capped off a terrific week by hitting her sixth home run of the year over the left centerfield fence in the top of the fourth inning. It was her second four-bagger of the series and third of the week.
Alabama used three Kentucky errors to score two more runs in the fifth and take the 8-1 lead.
Kentucky capitalized on the Tide's only error in the top of the sixth inning. Following a leadoff single by Nikki Jones, Crystalie Wolfe hit an infield single to the shortstop, who overthrew first base allowing Jones to come all the way around from first to score.
The Tide's Stephanie VanBrakle had a career-high 12 strikeouts including three straight in the top of the seventh to end the game and get her seventh win of the year
The Cats will take five days off before they travel to Starkville, Miss., for a weekend series with Mississippi State. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. ET and Sunday's game will start at 1:30 p.m. ET.
