Wildcats Downed by No. 11 Georgia
March 18, 2003
The University of Kentucky softball team (9-17, 1-7) got swept in a doubleheader with #11 Georgia (28-4, 7-1) Tuesday at the UK Softball Complex. Georgia's star pitcher Michelle Green struck out 16 batters in the two games and earned both victories.
In the first game, the Wildcats hung with the Bulldogs through three innings allowing only one run and two hits. In the top of the third, four straight Georgia players reached base, leading to three runs. The Wildcats answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Lyndsey Angus hit her team-leading fourth home run of the year over the left centerfield fence.
But Georgia scored four more in the top of the fourth to go ahead 8-1. They would hold Kentucky in the last three innings and get the victory. Senior Nikki Jones went 0-3, halting her hitting streak at 14 games.
In the second game, the Bulldogs scored two runs in each of the second, fourth and fifth innings and added one in the top of the sixth to get the 7-1 victory. UK's run came in the bottom of the third when a bunt single by Angus scored Megan Brooks.
Angus was 3-4 on the day driving in both Kentucky runs.
The third game of this SEC series is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the UK Softball Complex. Admission is free. Live Gametracker stats will be available on the schedule page.
