Wildcat Women's Soccer Drills No. 12 Georgia, 4-1

Forward Annie Gage scores twice to help Kentucky to victory.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 26, 1999) -- The University of Kentucky women's soccer team scored an impressive 4-1 victory over the 12th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs Sunday afternoon at the UK Soccer Complex.

The Cats, ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region, looked more like the 12th-ranked team nationally, outshooting the Bulldogs 15-5. Led by forwards Annie Gage and Elizabeth Ramsey, UK captured its fifth straight victory of the season. Gage netted two goals while Ramsey tallied a trio of assists.

UK (6-2-1, 3-1) found itself behind early in the match when UGA's Catherine Holder went one-on-one with UK goalkeeper Jo Fletcher and put the ball in the left corner of the net at the 4:13 mark. However, the Cats were impressive in battling back, taking control of the final 85 minutes of play.

Junior Jaime Dellbringge scored her second goal in her second consecutive start of the season off an assist from Ramsey at the 26:22 mark. UGA goalkeeper Nicole Williams came out of the goal to try and stop the ball but Dellbringge put the ball into the empty net, tying the game at one goal apiece.

Just before halftime, Gage broke the tie when she fired a shot high that sailed over the outstretched hands of Williams.

Keri Boyce scored her fifth goal of the season when she put back a ball that Williams deflected. Ramsey and Melinda Buemi were each credited with an assist on the play.

Gage rounded out the scoring for UK when she scored her second goal of the game. Gage's header in front of the net went high and off the fingertips of Williams. However, Williams was unable to get to the ball before it trickled across the line.

"Everybody out there compliments each other," UK coach Warren Lipka said. "Our motto this year is put the team ahead of yourself and that's what is happening. Everybody is playing for each other and playing as a unit. We just want to continue to get better and better everytime we step on the field."

UK returns to action on Friday, Oct. 1, when the Cats travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to play UNLV in the UNLV Rebel Tournament. The match will begin at 10 p.m. (EST).
