UK Women's Soccer Team Drops OT Match to Cincinnati

CINCINNATI - University of Kentucky seniors Ali Rooney and Kim LaBelle hooked up for two goals, but it was not enough as the UK women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision at Cincinnati Friday night.

The Bearcats jumped on the board just 15 minutes into the game when Vicki Vilvens converted a penatly kick to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead. However, UK would equalize 15 minutes later when Rooney converted a LaBelle pass to level the scores at 1-1. With the assist, LaBelle moved to first place on the all-time Kentucky assists chart. LaBelle put the Wildcats ahead 2-1 eight minutes into the second half, taking a pass from Rooney and shooting past the Cincinnati goalkeeper.

Cincinnati tied the score at 2-2 to force overtime with five minutes remaining as Brooke Thomas scored from a Vilven corner kick. The Bearcats pulled out the win a minute and a half into overtime when Tina Matlock scored from seven yards out.

"This is a tough loss, especially since we were leading with about five minutes to go in the game," UK head coach Warren Lipka said. "We just have to get ready to play a good Nebraska team on Sunday." The Wildcats take on the ninth-ranked Huskers in Lincoln on Sunday.
