Oct. 22, 1999
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The 19th-ranked University of Kentucky women's soccer team defeated the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks 4-1 Friday night. The victory extended the Cats' winning streak to 12 games.
UK (13-2-1, 7-1 SEC) scored three first-half goals and never looked back as the Cats' clinched the third seed in the upcoming Southeastern Conference Tournament (Nov. 4-7).
Sophomore Suzie Ledzianowski opened the scoring for UK when she netted her second goal of the season at the 3:51 mark.
Forward Keri Boyce found the ball at the top of UA's box and went one-on-one with the Lady Razorbacks goalkeeper Megan Bals. The freshman fired the ball past Bals to give UK a 2-0 lead with less than 25 minutes left in the first half.
UK added its third goal of the half when Margo Hafer, returning to the lineup after missing the Cats' last eight games, put her knee on teammate Emily Oetjen's corner kick and in for her first goal of the season.
UA's Heather Cato put the Lady Razorbacks on the board at the 55:57 mark when she put a header in past UK keeper Beth Wells to avoid a shutout.
Annie Gage rounded out the scoring for UK with her twelfth goal of the season. Gage took a cross from Boyce and nailed an eight-yard shot as the Cats won their seventh straight SEC contest.
"We came out with a high level of intensity tonight and it showed," UK coach Warren Lipka said. "Suzie's goal early in the first half helped us get into our attack mode and play the kind of game we wanted to play. It also makes it easier when you get an early goal and can play with a lead."
The Cats outshot the Lady Razorbacks 22-6, while UA took eight corner kicks compared to three for UK.
UK returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 24, when the Cats travel to face LSU. The match begins at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
