LEXINGTON, Ky. - Head gymnastics coach, Hajile "Mo" Muhammad, landed a stellar group of first-year gymnasts for his first season at the helm. Muhammad welcomes four Texas natives to the GymKats roster for the upcoming season and if past accomplishments are any indication, UK gymnastics has a bright future ahead.
"We are looking forward to a fantastic year barring injuries," Muhammad said. "The energy and excitement that the veterans as well the newcomers exude is gratifying. The staff and I are excited with the direction the program is going."
The fantastic four from the "Lone Star" state include, Krystle Cook, Sarai Sevier, Alison Sarucci and two-time Texas state champion and Region 3 All-around champion, Rachel Riley. Muhammad has great things to say about them all.
Muhammad on Krystle Cook - "We are anxious to get Krystle on the competition floor. Her skill level is incredible and her aspiration to compete is second to none. The coaching staff is chomping at the bit to work with her. She will be a major force in the All-around. We are pleased to have her on our team."
Muhammad on Sarai Sevier - "We are looking forward to what Sarai will bring to Kentucky gymnastics. Her strongest event is bars, but she is also accomplished in other events. Sarai will also make an immediate impact for our program."
Muhammad on Alison Sarucci - "Alison brings a lot of strength and desire to our program. She has a lot of expertise in all four events. I am looking forward to seeing what she will do this season and beyond. She will push the others as well as herself to make this team better."
Muhammad on Rachel Riley - "Rachel comes to us with numerous accomplishments. She competed as an elite gymnast and last season she went undefeated in nearly every one of her competitions before an injury prevented her from competing at the National Championships. She should make an immediate impact in the All-around and definitely help the team to rise to a level of prominence in the SE
