LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After being on the road for four of its last five meets, the University of Kentucky gymnastics team returns home for the final time this season, hosting a tri-meet with Bowling Green and George Washington on Friday at 7 p.m. ET at Memorial Coliseum.
Kentucky (4-8, 1-5 Southeastern Conference) will honor its four seniors, Jasmine Minion, Andrea Mitchell, Phylicia Reshard and Colleen Williams, after the meet for their hard work and dedication for the Kentucky program the past few years.
The group of seniors has been a vital part of Kentucky’s success this season with Mitchell and Reshard participating as all-arounders, while Minion is a mainstay in three events and Williams a key contributor in two events. Mitchell, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., has performed on all four events in every meet for Kentucky, earning career highs on vault, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around.
Reshard has saved her best season for last, working hard to becoming an all-around competitor for the Wildcats. The native of West Chester, Ohio, has won two all-around titles for UK this season, including her first ever all-around title against No. 3 Georgia.
Minion and Williams have also been impressive for UK. Minion, a native of Memphis, Tenn., has scored two 9.925s this season and grabbed four event honors, including three on vault. Williams, a native of Naperville, Ill., has stepped up and performed well for UK in both vault and bars, earning a career high 9.85 on vault, helping UK set a new school record vault score of 49.4
Kentucky enters the meet just outside of the GymInfo top 25 at No. 26 with a Regional Qualifying Score of 194.7. UK is ranked high on three events, including floor where the Wildcats are ranked 13th in the nation with a season average of 48.94. Kentucky is also ranked 13th on vault with an average of 48.942 and 24th on uneven bars with a season average of 48.642.
Four Kentucky gymnasts are ranked as individuals in the latest rankings with Reshard and Mitchell entering the weekend ranked 17th and 23rd, respectively in the all-around competition. Junior Whitney Rose and Minion are tied for 19th in the nation on vault with both having RQS averages of 9.865. Minion, Mitchell and Reshard are also all tied for 20th in the nation on floor exercise with a RQS of 9.85.
George Washington and Bowling Green enter the meet ranked No. 49 and No. 60, respectively. GW comes in 51st on vault, 49th on bars, tied for 36th on beam and 48th on floor, while BGSU is 62nd on vault, 57th on bars, 63rd on beam and 57th on floor.
