No. 18 Gymnastics Falls at No. 9 Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The 18th-ranked University of Kentucky gymnastics team posted a season-high 48.925 on the balance beam but lost at ninth-ranked Oregon State 196.650-195.275 Friday at Gill Coliseum. Oregon State (13-3) won three events plus the all-around title, leading the meet from start to finish. UK senior Hillary Ferguson (Richmond, Ky.) and sophomore Storey Morris (Tyler, Texas) matched their career-high best efforts on the beam, posting replica 9.825 scores to tie Oregon State's Leslie Mak for second place. Kentucky edged Oregon State 48.925-48.900 to win the team event title. Laura-Ann Chong of Oregon State won title honors on the event with a 9.875. UK sophomore Whitney Rose took second place on the vault with a 9.875 effort. Mandi Rodriguez of Oregon State took first with a 9.950 score. Oregon State won the event 49.125-48.925. Rodriguez also won title honors on the floor exercise with a 9.925, leading OSU to a 49.325-48.675 team win on the apparatus. UK's Emily Green (Penfield, N.Y.) led UK's showing with a 9.800 to tie for fifth. Rodriguez claimed the all-around title with a 39.425 tally. UK's Andrea Mitchell (Knoxville, Tenn.) took second at 38.950. Oregon State's Chong also won the uneven bars with a 9.900 score to help the Beavers post a 49.300-48.750 win on the event. UK senior Emilie Rymer (Medina, Ohio) and Morris led UK's effort with matching 9.800 scores to tie for sixth. Kentucky (7-7) travels to Jacksonville, Fla., for the Southeastern Conference Championships Saturday, March 27 at 4 p.m. ET.
