Women’s Golf in 15th After First Day of Lady Tar Heel Invite
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Kentucky women’s golf team carded a first-round 323 Friday to finish the opening day of the Lady Tar Heel Invite in 15th place at a rain-soaked Finley Golf Course. The Wildcats were led by senior Ali Kicklighter (DeLand, Fla.), who fired a squad-best three-over-par 75 to conclude the first round tied for 14th place.
No. 1 Duke is currently in first place at the tournament, shooting a six-over-par 294 in the opening round. The Blue Devils were the only team in the rigorous tournament field, which includes seven teams ranked in the Golfweek top 25, to shoot better than 300 on the day. Duke’s Anna Grzebien and Virginia’s Lea Wigger top the individual leaderboard after each carding two-under-par 70s in the first round.
Sophomore Elizabeth Dotson (White Bluff, Tenn.) shot a first-round 80 to finish eight-over-par in a tie for 50th place, while senior Erin Faulkner (Bowling Green, Ky.) is tied for 66th place with an opening-round 82.
Junior Emily Culbertson (Crestview Hills, Ky.) currently is tied for 89th place with a first-round 86 and sophomore Beth Felts (Chattanooga, Tenn.) is in 92nd place with an 87 to round out the tournament field for the Wildcats.
Play in the Lady Tar Heel Invite continues at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with a shotgun start. The teams conclude tournament play with the final 18 holes of the 54-hole event at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
