LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former UK women’s golfer Mallory Blackwelder has been selected to compete on Golf Channel’s reality series “Big Break.”
Blackwelder, who played for the Cats from 2007-09, will compete against 11 other golfers on this year’s show taking place in Ireland. The overall winner will be awarded two tournament exemptions from the four exemptions available, which represent tournaments on the LPGA, European Tour and Ladies European Tour.
Big Break Ireland is scheduled to premier Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. ET. The series’ 16th season is being filmed at the K Club in Kildare, Ireland. The K Club hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup as well as 13 European Opens on the European Tour. The series will last 10 episodes.
A native of Versailles, Ky., Blackwelder played her junior and senior years at UK after transferring from the University of Florida. As a junior, Blackwelder recorded the top scoring average for a season (75.34) in program history. Blackwelder then helped lead the UK women’s golf team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in nine years as a senior. She was also named SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year her senior year after maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Blackwelder competed in all 10 events her senior year and had UK’s top individual score in five of them, including her win at the Lady Mocs Intercollegiate. Blackwelder played in 26 rounds of golf during her senior year, with an average score of 75.62, including a personal best of 72. Her 75.62 scoring average is the third lowest in program history.
