Rio Grande, Puerto Rico – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team is scheduled to tee off their 2013 spring season Feb. 10-12 in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Beach Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The tournament will be a 54-hole stroke-play event, with a round of 18 being played on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The invitational is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. ET on Sunday and Monday and at 6:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
“We are very excited to get back on the road this week,” head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “This will be a good tournament to start our spring season due to the good field and great climate. The team has worked hard and I know they are really motivated to start competing again.”
The Wildcats lineup will feature junior Liz Breed, freshmen Cylia Damerau and Sarah Harris, along with seniors Megan Moir and Ashleigh Albrecht. Senior Betsie Johnson will participate as an individual for the Wildcats.
The 15-team field includes Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan, N.C. State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue, Southern Methodist, TCU and Texas Tech.
The tournament will be played at the River Course located at the Rio Mar Beach Resort and is a par-72, 6,191 yard layout.
In the fall, the Wildcats competed in four events that included a team victory in the opening tournament at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational Sept. 10-12. UK recorded a total of three top-10 finishes, including sixth and eighth place finishes in the Alamo Invitational and Mason Rudolph Championship, respectively.
