Women's Golf Betters Score in Second Round of NCAA Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Kentucky women's golf team bettered its score by seven strokes to remain in 11th place at the NCAA Regional at the Scarlet Golf Course, on May 8.
"Sara Hurwitch stepped up to shoot a team-leading 73 today," UK head coach Myra Blackwelder said. "We got a solid effort from the whole team today. The course set up was difficult again and included tough pin positions."
Hurwitch bettered her score by eight strokes - her best first-to-second round improvement of the season. The Sterling, Va., native concluded the round to tie for 53rd place with a cumulative 154 (81-73).
Co-captains Mallory Blackwelder and Kristin Vincent also shaved strokes off their scores. Blackwelder bettered her score by one stroke and ended the day in 24th-place tie with a cumulative 151 (75-76). Vincent carded 77 - a two stroke improvement from the opening round - and concluded the day in tie for 64th place with a cumulative 156 (79-77) .
Ashlee Rose continues to lead the Wildcats with a cumulative 150 (75-76). The Lexington, Ky., native shot a four-over-par 76 - good for a 21st-place tie.
Freshman Alyssa Randolph carded a consistent 79. The Knoxville, Tenn., native concluded the second day of play to tie for 77th-place with a cumulative 158 (79-79).
No. 44 Kentucky carded a cumulative 609 (308-301) to share 11th place with No. 17 Kent State. The Wildcats outplayed 11 teams in the second round including in state rivals No. 15 Louisville and Murray State. UCLA remains in the lead with a two-under-par 574.
"The team practiced for an hour after the round in order to put the final touches of preparation for the final round tomorrow," Myra Blackwelder said. "The key to tomorrow will be the ability to stay focused and patient."
