Women's Golf Concludes Play at SEC Championship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Carding a 906 (302-296-308), the University of Kentucky women's golf team concluded play at the Southeastern Conference Championships in 11th place Sunday at the North River Yacht Club (par 71, 6,057 yards) in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Freshman Ashleigh Albrecht paced the squad throughout the event, shooting an even-par 71 in the opening round. With a third-round 78, Albrecht finished the tournament as the highest-ranking Wildcat, placing in a tie for 31st (71-73-78).
With a 76 in the final round, freshman Betsie Johnson ended the event tied for 42nd (78-72-76). Johnson's second-round 72 marked Kentucky's lowest second-round score.
Rounding out Kentucky's effort, sophomore Ashlee Rose finished with a 233 (74-80-79).
Alabama claimed the team title with a 4-under-par 848 (287-278-283) with Vanderbilt's Marina Alex carding a 5-under-par 208 (71-65-72) to claim the individual crown. Alex defeated Erica Popson of Tennessee in a two-hole playoff.
Last season at the SEC Championship, Kentucky finished 11th with a 918 (313-297-308). Mallory Blackwelder led the Wildcats' effort, finishing tied for 26th (74-74-76). Auburn took the 2009 title behind a 1-over-par 285, while Marta Silva of Georgia took the individual crown with a 3-under-par 210.
