Nov. 16, 2002
Lexington, KY - The Kentucky women's basketball team will play host to the Premier All-Stars on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in its final exhibition game in Memorial Coliseum. Admission is free.
The Wildcats look to avenge a 72-66 loss to the All-Star team last season. UK is 2-1 in all-time exhibition play against Premier, winning 99-75 in 2000 and 99-78 in 1999. Made up of former collegiate players, the Premier All-Stars conclude its eight-game schedule at Kentucky. They are 4-2 after defeating Central Michigan, Illinois State, Bowling Green and Ohio University. Premier lost to Indiana by a mere five points, 70-65, and fell by only three to Bradley, 75-72.
Premier is led by former Ohio State player and Kodak Honorable Mention All-American Lisa Cline, who is averaging 21 points a game. Former WNBA player, Trish Bader-Binford of Boise State, is averaging 17 ppg in six games. Jamie Lewis, Ohio State's NIT Most Valuable Player in 2001, helps strengthen the backcourt while the 1997 Big 10 MVP and co-scoring champion, Jannon Roland, averages 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in four games.
"This exhibition game will be true test for us," UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. "These players have years of experience and have beaten three of the teams they've played. We will have to be focused and ready to play."
The Wildcats easily defeated the Basketball Travelers on Tuesday, 87-50, in their first exhibition game. Sophomore guard Sara Potts put on a scoring clinic, dropping in a game-high 24 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the field. UK will open regular-season play on Monday, Nov. 25, at home against Southern Illinois.
