UK Women Drop Second Straight Game to Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville's Sharon Bellamy scored 24 points to lead the Lady Cardinals over Kentucky 80-62 in Louisville's Freedom Hall on Wednesday.
UK down by 10 (43-33) at half time struggled with Louisville the entire game, losing the battle of the boards 42-31. The Wildcats (9-9, 2-4) shot only 39.7 percent from the field and allowed the Lady Cards (9-8, 4-2) 20 points off their 16 turnovers. Kentucky never owned a lead over Louisville.
"Louisville played an excellent game tonight," UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. "Our defense was really inconsistent. I am very disappointed that our players did not come out fired up. They (Louisville) came out strong and they deserved to win this ball game."
Four UK players scored in double digits with Tiffany Wait leading the pack with 21. Jaye Barnes added 15 points and Kim Denkins and Laura Meadows netted 12 and ten points respectively. Along with Bellamy, Jill Morton (18 points) and Roscell Bullock (12 points) added double figure scoring for Louisville.
After its four home-game stand, UK will be on the road this weekend when
it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the Crimson Tide. Tip-off is slated
for 8 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
