Bawono Remains Undefeated in Fluitt Classic
University of Kentucky senior Edo Bawono extended his winning streak to three matches, defeating Fresno State's David Mullins and Baylor's George Bibza in Saturday's matches of the Third annual Charles Fluitt Collegiate Classic.
Bawono defeated Mullins, 2-6, 6-5, 6-5, in the morning match and had a strong performance in the evening, defeating Bibza, 6-3, 6-1. Junior Johan Grunditz also had an impressive day on the hard courts, notching victories over Fresno State's Nick Fustar and Baylor's Sean O'Connor. Both matches were hard fought for Grunditz, as he took down Fustar, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, and O'Connor, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles actions, the Wildcats went 3-for-3 in morning action with FSU, but dropped two of its three matches to Baylor Saturday evening. The duo of Grunditz and sophomore Elliott Datlow looked strong, defeating both Andrew Styperek and Anthony Barker of Harvard and Cory Ross and Mike Garcia of Baylor, 8-7.
The Cats wrap up their play in the invitational event tomorrow afternoon when they take on Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee at 1 p.m. at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. Individual flight winners will be announced following the match. Admission is free.
