LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky men’s tennis stars Eric Quigley and Brad Cox recently completed a successful run in the MIMA Foundation Pro Tennis Classic in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., with Quigley advancing through qualifying to the second round of the main draw and Cox making it to the third round of qualifying before eventually falling to Quigley.

Quigley, who will be a senior on the 2011-12 team, began his run in the event with an opening round qualifying win over Andrey Tereshchenko of Russia 6-0, 6-0. In the second round, Quigley took down Peter Kevin Colliard of Mexico 6-0, 6-2 before squaring off against UK teammate and All-American doubles partner Cox in the third round. Quigley took down his close friend 6-4, 6-1 and went on to defeat No. 1476 David Emery in the final 6-1, 6-4 to receive one of the eight qualifying spots.

In the main draw, Quigley took down Southern California star Raymond Sarmiento in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to the second round. Sarmiento finished the 2011 collegiate season ranked No. 39 in the nation in singles. Quigley fell in the second round to eventual tournament champion Jesse Levine, who is ranked No. 346 in the world.

Cox, who was a senior and a team captain for Kentucky last season, won two matches in the qualifying stage, taking down Jake Corby 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round and Amir Evgamukov in a come-from-behind effort 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-1 in the second round. Cox fell out of the tournament when he was defeated by Quigley in the third round.

Quigley Receives Main Draw Invite into PressEx Print Open

On top of his already impressive list of accomplishments this summer, Kentucky men’s tennis senior Eric Quigley received a wildcard bid into the International Tennis Federation PressEx Print Open Futures event in Innisbrook, Fla., starting Tuesday morning.

The native of Pewee Valley, Ky., will faceoff against the world’s 1046th-ranked player in Haydn Lewis of Barbados in the opening round Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET. Haydn has been ranked as high as 583rd in the world back in 2008. If Quigley wins he will face the winner of fifth-seeded Daniel Kosakowski and Raymond Sarmiento.
