No. 8 Kentucky Returns to SEC Action at No. 14 Vandy
April 5, 2013
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The eighth-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team will hit the road for the final three matches of the 2013 regular season, and the three-match road trip begins on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats travel to Nashville to take on No. 14 Vanderbilt at 1:00 p.m. ET.
The Wildcats enter this weekend’s match as winners of three of their last four, and 19-7 overall. UK is currently hoisting a 6-3 Southeastern Conference record and is one of four teams in the SEC to have three conference losses as teams are vying for seeding in the SEC Tournament. Tennessee, South Carolina and Ole Miss also have three losses in SEC play.
The Wildcats clinched the outright SEC regular season championship a season ago in Lexington against the Commodores and are 48-28 all time against the Commodores, with the first meeting between the two border-state rivals coming 83 years ago in 1970.
Vandy will be Kentucky’s 12th opponent this season to be ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s top-15. In those matches, Kentucky is 7-5.
Reigning SEC Player of the Week, Anthony Rossi is the highest-ranked Wildcat in singles, as he is currently No. 18 in the ITA rankings. Junior Tom Jomby is just a few slots behind Rossi at No. 24, and knocked off the fourth-ranked player in the country in Wednesday’s match with No. 5 Ohio State. Jomby and doubles partner Kevin Lai are currently 19th in the nation.
