Burns, Crone, Muessig Named Academic All-District

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky men’s soccer standouts Tyler Burns, Tim Crone and Tim Muessig have been named ESPN The Magazine first-team Academic All-District, the College Sports Information Directors Association of American announced Friday.
UK made up three of 11 spots on the first team, with Crone earning his second consecutive first-team All-District honor. Crone, a senior forward, owns a 3.4 cumulative GPA as a Business-Finance major. In his career, Crone has played in 49 career games and totaled 27 points, with 11 goals and five assists. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Crone ranks tied for sixth all-time in UK career history with five game-winning goals.
Burns, a junior midfielder, is a Business-Finance major sporting a 3.67 cumulative GPA. A native of Aura, Colo., Burns has been a fixture in the lineup since his freshman season, playing in 47 career games with 13 points. He has five goals and three assists in his career, including three game-winning goals. In 2009, Burns has three goals and an assist, ranking second on the team in points.
Muessig, a senior defender, has been a rock on the talented UK backline since arriving at UK in 2007. A native of Lexington, Ky., Muessig has started all 36 games of his UK career, subbing out only three times, one in a blowout situation and once due to blood on his jersey. While anchoring the UK defense the last two seasons, Muessig helped UK to a 0.81 goals-against average in 2008 and a 0.85 goals-against average in 2009. Academically, Muessig, who transferred to UK after Western Kentucky disbanded the program in 2007, has totaled a 3.75 cumulative GPA as a Business-Finance major.
Ten Conference USA players earned All-District honors, with UK making up 30-percent of the representatives from the league.
To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's games, be of sophomore standing athletically and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3. With first-team honors, UK
UK returns to action Sunday, facing FIU in Miami in its final road match of the year, at 1 p.m. ET. UK will then host SMU in its conference finale Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
