Chris' Chronicles: Week 2
I would like to start off this week by congratulating Thomas Senecal on his first career goal at Kentucky. It was a rip from about twenty-five yards out that sailed into top corner. I would also like to congratulate everyone new to the program on their first win as Kentucky Wildcats.
Last week was long due to the cancellation of our first game against Louisville. The game got cancelled twice because it poured for two or three straight days. Everyone wanted to play start the season because we had been in preseason for almost three weeks. It was smart on the coaches' part not to play and ruin the field. It looks great, and playing last week would have destroyed it.
We basically had two days off last week. The break was great and something everyone needed. I felt great on Thursday for training. My legs were well-rested. Practice on Thursday and Friday was hard but fun and it got us prepared focused for Sunday's game against UNC Asheville. On Sunday, everyone was ready to play. The weather was great and allowed us to high pressure Asheville all over the field. We came out from the beginning and took it to them. Our defense was stifling and UNC Asheville didn't get off a shot until the 52nd minute of the game. There was a span of about ten minutes in the second half were we had a bit of a let down, but overall we played with enthusiasm and heart. Our work rate was top-notch and it was a great way to start the season.
Coach Collins was happy with our work rate and performance. We all know we still have things to work on, but we got the win and that was the most important thing.
We are all focusing our attention to the Cincinnati game on Thursday. It is a tough place to play and they have a good team. The game against the Bearcats is at night and it starts off a span of five games in eleven days. It should be fun.
