LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Junior Kentucky defender Dylan Asher has been selected to the preseason All-Conference USA team, in a voting of league coaches, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
Asher, a native of Richardson, Texas, has become a key defensive member in his three seasons in a Kentucky uniform and in 2010 became the second freshman All-America selection in program history.
A vital member on last year’s 2011 team, Asher saw action in 13 games (11 starting assignments) and logged the third-most minutes by a defender for the 2011 squad. For the year, Asher tallied three assists and three total points for the Wildcats as the team finished with a 9-9-2 record and ending the year winning three straight matches and four of the last five.
In a 2-1 win over No. 9 Michigan on opening weekend in 2012, Asher set up Tyler Riggs for the tying and game-winning goals. His final assist of the year came at 25th-ranked South Carolina when he once again found Riggs to help Kentucky to a tie as the Gamecocks played for the league regular-season title.
In 2010, Asher accumulated the most minutes of all Wildcats with 1767 minutes of action while helping to lead Kentucky to a 7-8-4 mark and a 4-2-2 conference record in C-USA. After the 2010 season he was named second-team All-Conference USA and to the All-Freshman C-USA team.
UK opens the 2012 regular season in Dayton, Ohio, vs. the Dayton Flyers on Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. ET. The first home match will take place on Sept. 7 vs. Saint Joseph’s at the UK Soccer Complex.
