Wildcats Blank Bowling Green, 1-0, Stay Perfect In The MAC
Oct. 3, 1999
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The University of Kentucky men's soccer team won its second Mid-American Conference match of the weekend on Sunday, edging Bowling Green 1-0.
UK defender Todd Stonestreet chipped a 30-yard shot over the BG keeper in the 66th minute for the game's lone goal as UK upped its MAC record to 2-0 on the year.
Kentucky keeper Brian O'Leary needed only one save to post the shutout, his second of the weekend and fourth of the season.
The win was especially sweet for the Cats, who have been eliminated from post-season play by the Falcons four consecutive seasons.
"Our guys really wanted this win," UK Coach Ian Collins said. "Bowling Green has knocked us out of the tournament four years in a row, and our guys felt like we owed them one."
With the win, UK improves to 6-3, while BG falls to 3-7, 0-1 in the MAC.
The Soccer Cats return to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 8, when they host Eastern Michigan in a 7:30 p.m. match at the UK Soccer Complex.
