Men's Golf Opens 2012 Fall Season at Wolf Run Invitational
Sept. 14, 2012
LEXINGTON, Ky. – This weekend, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team will kick off its 2012 Fall season at the Wolf Run Invitational in Zionsville, Ind., Sept. 15-16. The Wildcats enter their 12th season under the direction of head coach Brian Craig.
Will Bishop led the Cats through qualifying and will be representing the team this weekend. The sophomore will be joined by senior Chase Parker, junior Stephen Powers, sophomore David Snyder and junior Cody Martin. Seniors Seth Blann and Joseph Barr along with freshman Harrison Greenberry will participate for Kentucky, playing as individuals.
“I think we are ready to play and I’m excited,” Craig said. “If I look at each guy individually there are two or three that have gotten a lot better since last year. Will Bishop and Steven Powers appear to be certainly improved. Chase Parker has really worked hard on his golf swing and he appears to be improved, and David Snyder. I think we have some guys that are better than last year.”
The Wolf Run Golf Club has been the host site for this tournament since it opened in 2006. The course is a par-71 (35-36) layout with a total distance of 7,195 yards.
“This course, in particular, demands two things,” Craig noted. “It demands a high golf IQ and execution. This course is an awesome golf course. It’s phenomenal. It’s one of my all-time favorite golf courses that I’ve ever played on in my life. You can just be smart, but you’ve also got to execute.”
The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will begin on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes and will begin with a shotgun start. The invitational will wrap up on Sunday with the final round of 18 at 8:30 a.m. All times are eastern.
The Wildcats will be accompanied by 13 universities in the tournament, including Akron, Butler, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, IPFW, IUPUI, Miami, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Ohio State, Texas Tech and Wisconsin.
The Wildcats look to build off a 2011 season during which they charted five top-10 finishes, including a team victory at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational.
