Men's Golf Completes Qualifying, Prepares to Open 2012-13 Season This Weekend
Sept. 12, 2012
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team finished up qualifying today and are set to open up their 2012 fall season this weekend at the Wolf Run Invitational, Sept. 15-16 in Zionsville, Ind. The squad enters their 12th season under the direction of head coach Brian Craig.
“Wolf Run is our first event of the fall and is probably the most demanding course we will play all year,” Craig said. “We have finished qualifying and are ready to compete. Will Bishop won our five round qualifier by 8 shots and all the starters are in good form heading into this weekend. We are ready to get this season started.”
Bishop finished qualifying, posting a team-best 14 under par through five rounds. The sophomore shot even par or lower in four of the five rounds, including a 10-under-par 62 at the Greenbrier Golf Country Club.
Junior Ben Stow completed four of the five rounds of qualifying, tallying a combined score of 15-under par. Stow, who transferred to UK from England earlier this month, will not be eligible to compete for the Wildcats until the spring.
Bishop will represent the Wildcats this weekend at the invitational and will be joined by senior Chase Parker, junior Stephen Powers, sophomore David Snyder and junior Cody Martin. Seniors Seth Blann and Joseph Barr along with freshman Harrison Greenberry will represent Kentucky, playing as individuals.
The Wildcats will be accompanied by 13 universities in the tournament, including Akron, Butler, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, IPFW, IUPUI, Miami, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Ohio State, Texas Tech and Wisconsin.
The Wildcats look to build off a 2011 season where they charted five top-10 finishes, including a team victory at the UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational.
