Belden Qualifies for U.S. Amateur with 10-Under-Par Score at Eagle Trace

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- University of Kentucky men’s golf senior Brian Belden scored a 10-under-par 134 at the 36-hole qualifying event at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Morehead, Ky., to qualify for the United States Amateur on Monday.

Belden, a medalist by three strokes, posted low scores in both rounds, carding a 3-under-par 69 in the first round and a solid 7-under-par 65 in the second round to claim the lone qualifying spot.

A native of Emmaus, Pa., will now move on to the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash. The Championship will run Aug. 23-29. The format will feature two days of stroke play before the field of 312 players will be cut to the lowest 64 scores. Qualifiers will compete in an 18-hole match-play tournament with the finalist advancing to a 36-hole final on Sunday, Aug. 29.
