Wildcats Finish 12th at Hootie Invitational
AWENDAW, S.C. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team wrapped up play today, Mar. 28, with a 12th-place finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Collegiate Invitational. The Wildcats shot a team score of 296 to finish with a three-day total of 883. Wake Forest led the entire way and took home the title with a team score of 842 (+6).
Augusta State’s Jamie Miller edged Wake Forest’s Webb Simpson by one stroke to win medalist honors with a three-round score of 204 (70-64-70).
Freshman Dan Woltman led the Cats with his four-over par score of 217 (72-73-72) for the three-day tournament. Woltman tied for 17th in the individual standings after shooting a one-over par 72 on the final day of play. Senior Matt Kohn posted the best third-round score for the Cats as he fired a 70 to finish tied for 26th overall with a six-over par score of 219 (73-76-70).
Freshman Andy Winings tied for 47th overall with a score of 223 (70-72-78), while Brad Doster finished 58th with a total of 225 (77-72-76). Junior Mark Erlewine rounded out the scoring for UK with a total score of 235 (77-75-83).
“This week was a reality check for our team. We have been playing quite well lately and just simply had one of the worst weeks in a long, long time on the greens,” said head coach Brian Craig. “The good news is that I like the character of this group of young men and I am confident that we will bounce back very quickly.”
The Wildcats return to action Apr. 7-8 at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C.
