Men's Golf Closes out AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic
Oct. 18, 2011
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Sophomore Stephen Powers and freshman David Snyder each carded rounds of even par Tuesday to close out play at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic. Kentucky, as a team, moved up two positions on the final day, and finished in seventh at the inaugural event held in Duluth, Ga.
"This team is close and we are making progress," UK head coach Brian Craig said. "We are putting ourselves in position but need more consistency in our last counting score."
Beginning on the 10th tee at Berkeley Hills Country Club (par 72, 6,694 yards), Powers played great golf on the back nine, making the turn at 2-under par and going 3-under par through the round's first 10 holes. Powers closed out the tournament with the top score on the team, finishing at 7-over par overall to finish in a tie for 25th.
Playing in his first collegiate tournament with his score counting toward the team's score, Snyder showed great composure, improving his score each round. After an opening round 78, Snyder shot a second-round 74 and closed the tournament with an even-par 72.
"Also, I was very pleased with the play of freshman David Snyder in his first event in the starting line up," Craig said. "He gave us two solid rounds and has a bright future ahead of him."
Cody Martin finished in a tie for 38th after Tuesday's 2-over par 74 moved him to 10-over par for the tournament.
Freshman Will Bishop, who played as an individual this week, shot a 3-over par 75 Tuesday to finish in 64th.
The Wildcats will play again in two weeks at the UNC-Greensboro Bridgestone Golf Collegiate held at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate will conclude Kentucky's fall schedule.
