Day One Results
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team wrapped up day one of the Gary Koch Invitational finishing with a 36-hole score of 3-over-par. The Wildcats were in 10th place after round one after shooting 7-over-par, before firing back with a 4-under-par, 284 in the second round to move into eighth place in the 14-team field.
"When this team learns how to start, we are going to be dangerous,” head coach Brian Craig said. “I am proud of our come back round today in the afternoon. We had a great round going for a long while but still had a good showing.”
Ben Stow leads the Cats and is tied for 18th after shooting 1-under on the day. The junior shot a 3-over-par, 75 in the first round before bouncing back with a career-low 4-under-par, 68 on the back nine. Stow, a native of Salisbury, England, is in his first year with the Wildcats after transferring in the fall.
Senior Chase Parker also showed resilience in the latter round, posting a season-low round of 3-under-par, 69. The Augusta, Ga., native was 3-over in the opening round and sits in a tie for 20th position at even par.
Stephen Powers was the low man for Kentucky in the first round, shooting even par, 72. The junior was 2-over in the final round of the afternoon and is tied for 29th at 2-over.
Junior Cody Martin was the most consistent wildcat of the day, charting back-to-back 1-over-par, 73’s and is also tied for 29th at 2-over-par. Sophomore Will Bishop is tied for 47th at 5-over-par.
Freshman Harrison Greenberry, who is competing as an individual, shot 4-over-par, 76 in the first round, before withdrawing before the second round due to a pulled muscle. He is being reevaluated and is questionable for play on Tuesday.
The final round is set to get underway on Tuesday with Bishop teeing off first for the Wildcats at 7:45 a.m. ET from hole No. 1. Martin, Powers, Parker and Stow will follow, respectively, in 10 minute intervals. Greenberry is slated to tee off from hole No. 10 at 8:55 a.m.
