LEXINGTON, Ky. –  Kentucky offensive linemen Stuart Hines and Billy Joe Murphy have been elected Academic All-District II, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced.

Hines, a senior from Bowling Green, Ky., has a career grade-point average of 3.53.  He already has completed his degree with a major in finance and is working toward a second major in management.  He is a three-year member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll and also has been named to the SEC Good Works Team for community service.  He is a finalist for two national honors – the Wuerffel Trophy for community service, academics and athletics; and the Sportsmanship Award, which goes to the player who best personifies the spirit of sportsmanship.  On the field, Hines is a three-year starter for the Wildcats.

Murphy, a senior from Gamaliel, Ky., has a career grade-point average of 3.73 with a major in kinesiology.  He received the Hackensmith Award as the Most Outstanding Undergraduate Kinesiology Student in the UK College of Education. He is a three-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has been active in community service.  This is his second year on the All-District Team.  On the playing field, he has been a full-time starter at right tackle this season and was a part-time starter in previous seasons with the Wildcats.

By winning on the district level, Hines and Murphy advance to the national ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in December.  CoSIDA District II is comprised of schools from the states of Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Three additional Wildcats, wide receiver Brian Adams, kicker Joe Mansour and kicker Craig McIntosh, also earned nomination for the Academic All-America process.  To be a nominee, a player must have a career GPA of at least 3.30, be a sophomore or higher in academic and athletic standing, be a starter or key reserve and have played in at least half of the team’s games that season.
