LEXINGTON, Ky. - University of Kentucky senior defensive lineman Luke McDermott has been named Co-Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in Kentucky's 14-3 win over in-state foe Western Kentucky University last week, the league office announce Monday.
McDermott was impressive upfront for the Wildcats, helping limit Western Kentucky to three points and 234 total yards. McDermott gathered four tackles, tying a career high, including a five-yard sack.
The native of Louisville, Ky., turned into a regular contributor last season when he played in all 13 games with five starts, recording 17 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks and one interception.
Winston Guy Named Defensive Back Performer of the Week: University of Kentucky senior Winston Guy, Jr., has been named the Defensive Back Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards for his impressive play in Kentucky's win last week.
Guy, a native of Lexington, Ky., had 10 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions in Kentucky's 14-3 win over Western Kentucky last Thursday. The senior's performance was probably the best overall performance of his career and has now earned double-figure tackles in five career games.
Along with Guy, the College Football Performance Awards named sophomore kicker Joe Mansour Honorable Mention Kickoff Specialist of the Week and senior punter Ryan Tydlacka was tabbed Honorable Mention Punter of the Week.
Mansour had three kickoffs against WKU with one touchback. WKU's average starting yard line after the kickoffs was their own 21-yard line. Tydlacka changed the field position game with seven punts for an average of 47.1 yards per punt and three punts inside the 10-yard line.
UK Athletics to Host "Heroes Day" at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday: The UK Athletics Department will host "Heroes Day" Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium, honoring military, police, firefighters and other first responders at the game. Heroes can present their service ID at the gate 4 ticket booth and receive a complimentary ticket for themselves and a guest, while supplies last. First responders will be honored throughout the game.
