Rain Shortens Thursday's Football Practice
Aug. 19, 1999
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Two rainstorms shortened the Kentucky football practice Thursday afternoon at the Nutter Training Center. All totaled, the Wildcats were on the field approximately 90 minutes of the scheduled two-hour workout.
After practice, Coach Hal Mumme spoke positively regarding junior defensive backs Willie Gary and Jeremy Bowie, who are possible redshirt candidates while they rehabilitate injuries. Gary has been the first-team free safety and Bowie is the top reserve at cornerback.
"They're meeting our expectations so far," Mumme said. "We've been encouraged by what we've seen."
Mumme also talked about the play of the Wildcats cornerbacks.
"The cornerbacks have improved a lot," Mumme said. "Eric Kelly has played particularly well lately. We've had a hard time getting away from him. Kenneth Grant has only been playing the position a year and he's come a long way."
The Wildcats return to the practice field Friday with practices at 10 a.m., 3 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.
