Wildcats Take Care of Wolves in Exhibition
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Patrick Sparks scored 15 points to lead Kentucky to an 80-51 exhibition victory Wednesday night over NCAA Division II Northern State.
Sparks scored 10 points in the second half, including seven during a late 18-4 run that helped Kentucky pull away down the stretch.
Sparks connected on his only 3-pointer during the decisive spurt and had six assists.
Sheray Thomas and Ramel Bradley followed Sparks with nine points apiece.
Matt Hammer led Northern State with 16 points. Northern State trailed 42-29 with 14:17 remaining but couldn't get any closer.
The Wildcats shot 51 percent from the field but made just four shots from long range. Kentucky also struggled from the free throw line, going just 8-for-16. The Wildcats held a 40-31 edge on the boards and forced 25 turnovers.
Kentucky held a 21-12 lead with 6:30 remaining in the first half but outscored the Wolves 14-3 in the final six minutes for a 35-15 halftime advantage.
Reserve Jared Carter, a 7-foot-2 freshman center, had eight points and seven rebounds.
Kentucky's 6-10 sophomore center Randolph Morris didn't dress but sat on the team bench. Morris' eligibility is under review by the NCAA because of his relationship with sports agency SFX after he declared for the NBA draft. Morris also is nursing a toe injury.
