Wildcats Square Off Against Gators in SEC East Tilt
Following its two most impressive outings of the season, the University of Kentucky baseball team will travel to Gainesville this weekend for a three-game series starting Friday with Southeastern Conference Eastern Division rival Florida.
UK (14-17, 3-9 SEC) posted a season-high 23 runs on Wednesday at home against Tennessee Tech. That performance came on the heels of the Cats upset of seventh-ranked and defending NCAA Champion LSU last Sunday.
The offense has been the main reason for the improved play. UKs team batting average now stands at .282, up considerably from two weeks ago. Five Wildcats are hitting above the .300-mark, with Caleb Brock leading the way at .337. Seth Morris leads the squad in home runs with seven, including his first career grand slam on Wednesday afternoon.
Florida (22-13, 6-6 SEC) enters the weekend series as one of the hottest teams in the country, and riding an 11-game win streak. The Gators are 18-7 at home this season and have swept two consecutive SEC series. UFs offense has put up staggering numbers, most notably the .327 team batting average. Nine Gators are batting .300 or better.
The series gets underway on Friday at 7 p.m., EST at McKethan Stadium. Saturdays game also
starts at 7 p.m., while Sundays first pitch will be at 1:30 p.m. All games will be broadcast locally in
Lexington on WLXO/96.1-FM, or can be heard via the Internet on the UK athletics home page
